These are unprecedented times. We are faced with uncertainty, isolation, and sometimes despair. In other moments, we feel hope and a sense of spaciousness in our lives. Each of us is experiencing multiple emotions. We want to be strong, to fight for a better future, but holding onto that hope can feel so difficult.
This class is an offering for you to transform emotions that feel challenging into the grounding you need to act wisely and consistently. This class starts from the premise that no emotions are bad but that all emotions are trying to tell you something. Your task is to listen to what the emotion is saying while holding yourself with compassion and grounding. If you are resourced, you can hear the message of your emotions. And with that, you can act wisely and with intention.
Doing this is no small feat. This class honors the difficulty of the journey while holding strongly to a belief that this kind of transformation is possible. The intention of this class is to give you powerful tools that can help with this process.
The five yogic winds, or Vayus, are life energies that exist within your subtle body. They are traditionally associated with colors, locations, and emotions. Yoga understands that emotions are connected to the body which is connected to the mind. When you experience a challenging emotion, you don’t just experience it with your mind. You also experience it in your breath, in your body, and, according to Yoga, in your Vayus. All of these layers of experience interact with each other. And all of these layers can be entry points to transformation.
This class focuses on the Vayus as the entry point to transformation. In this class, you will learn what the Vayus are and how they have been described in various texts. You will learn which Vayus are associated with which emotions and how working with the Vayu can help transform the experience of the emotion.
We will experience the Vayus not only through lecture but also through movement, Yoga asana/postures. We will also use somatic, aka body-based, visualization and exercises to facilitate release of some of the challenging parts of these emotions as a tool in transformation. We will also incorporate intentional artwork inspired by sacred Mandala as a way to hone intention and further facilitate transformation.
By the end of this class, you should feel empowered to rise to the challenge of listening to your emotions. You will learn valuable techniques that you can use in your daily life to increase your capacity. You will have more options on how to respond to challenging emotions and, with practice, to find them empowering.
This class is taught by two sisters, Shannon Bronson and Allison Zamani, who have experienced the winds as tools of transformation. They are privileged and honored to share some of the tools that have helped in their healing in the hopes that they will help you on your path.
