Voice work is a powerful tool for transformation. 

Through the ages, the practices of breath, mindfulness, presence, and creative use of sound have been used to deepen into self-knowing and what we call “healing”. To heal is to return to your natural state – balance, freedom, grounding, and ease.

We dive straight into the therapeutic aspects of vocal work in this new six-week class. Through mindfulness, somatic movement, and cutting-edge vocal techniques, we adopt simple practices for presence, to maintain centeredness, remain grounded, and bring greater awareness to all of daily life.

The mind regularly runs old stories and beliefs. These were created at another time in our life and (believe it or not) they helped us get to the place we are now. But they have become an obstacle to true growth. It’s time to let them go.

As we work to shift long-held beliefs, remnants often remain in the physical body. These impressions affect our breath, our voice, how we show up in relationships, for ourselves, at work, in school – everything. 

Advanced voice work techniques (available to all levels of experience), mindfulness meditation, awareness of breath, and sound combine to transform stuck patterns, and bring freedom and focus. Through practice, and time, we can clear up the effects inauspicious messages have had on the psychophysical body. 

During this class, we will focus on:

  • Awareness of thoughts and separating from identifying with them,

  • Breath,

  • Acceptance, yielding, and impermanence,

  • Presence with Sound,

  • Listening,

  • Grounding,

  • Destructuring,**

  • Mindfulness Meditation, and 

  • Creative Play!

**Destructuring is a set of exercises that combines bioenergetics, yoga-esque positions, breath, sound, energy work, somatic awareness, and mindfulness to release unconscious, constrictive, physical patterns in the body. 

Each week, you will receive prompts, videos, and supplemental materials to deepen your learning. We will be working from parts of the book, “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. It is not necessary to own the book for this class, though it might prove to enhance your personal experience.

About Melissa Grogan

Melissa Grogan is a certified teacher of Meditation (300 hr), Voice Coach, Yoga (200 hr), sound therapist, Reiki Master Teacher, and is certified in Advanced Pranic Healing. She will complete her Somatic Movement Educator certification in 2023. Her classes combine all of these specialties into a unique blend that allows the participant to experience the power of their own instrument. She has been teaching, and practicing for more than 20 years. She leads meditations regularly and uses meditation as the cornerstone of all of her classes, private sessions, and daily life.
